UN-Habitat Executive Director Visits the Governor
On July 26, Ms. Maimunah Mohd Sharif, Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), visited Governor Hattori prior to the opening of a commemorative symposium on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of UN-Habitat’s Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific in Fukuoka.
In light of the growing importance of UN-Habitat’s activities, Governor Hattori explained the Fukuoka Method currently being implemented for waste disposal and the Prefecture’s projects for developing human resources who can play an active part in the global community. “It is my hope that with the 25th anniversary commemorative event to be held later today as an impetus, the UN-Habitat and its local partners including our prefecture will become ever more interconnected, and I look forward to the UN-Habitat Fukuoka Office’s continued development along with its local host community,” said the Governor.
*UN-Habitat Fukuoka Office: As the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, the office addresses settlement issues in developing countries in the Asia and Pacific region, covering 42 countries spanning Iran to the Pacific Islands, and promotes community-based urban development. It is the only United Nations agency located in the Kyushu area.
