Oceania National Olympic Committees Secretary General Visits the Governor
On July 26, Mr. Ricardo Blas, Secretary General of the Oceania National Olympic Committees (ONOC), and athletes belonging to ONOC visited Fukuoka Prefecture to observe the Kinshuki High School Judo Tournament and take part in a judo training camp. During their visit, the group also paid a call on Governor Hattori to strengthen their friendship with Fukuoka Prefecture in the future.
In December 2017, Fukuoka Prefecture and four municipalities in the prefecture (Yanagawa City, Miyama City, Miyako Town, and Chikujo Town) entered into a memorandum of understanding with ONOC to hold training camps prior to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. Subsequently, the local governments hosted pre-Olympic training camps for ONOC athletes and promoted their interaction with local residents.
In his remarks, the Governor said, “Fukuoka Prefecture wishes to develop stronger links with countries and territories in Oceania in various fields through continued sports exchanges.”
