Mosquito-borne infections
1. What are mosquito-borne infections?
Mosquito-borne infections are infectious diseases caused by being bitten by a mosquito carrying a virus.
Major mosquito-borne infections include viral diseases, such as dengue fever, chikungunya fever, Zika virus infection, Japanese encephalitis, West Nile fever, and yellow fever, and protozoan diseases, such as malaria.
These infectious diseases are prevalent mainly in tropical and subtropical regions.
2. Prevention method
When doing outdoor activities in areas with many mosquitoes, take protective measures against mosquitoes, such as reducing skin exposure and using insect repellent.
Vaccination with an inactivated vaccine is effective in preventing Japanese encephalitis, and oral administration of preventive medicine prescribed by a doctor is effective in preventing malaria.
