Fukuoka Prefectural Government’s own measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19

The number of new cases of the COVID-19 has exceeded over 100 for 5 consecutive days, approaching Stage 3 indicated by the national government’s alert scale, and the situation is becoming unpredictable.
The number of people who tested positive for new COVID-19 variants has increased 1.6 times in the last week compared to the previous week (from 102 to 162), and the number of unknown transmission route infections has exceeded 50%, so the prefectural government must suspect community infections.

The prefectural government is aware that we are approaching the fourth wave of infections and has a strong sense urgency of the situation.

We held a meeting at the prefectural government today, being a six-party consultations with Fukuoka City and other municipalities.

Looking at the number of new cases by regions, there has been a remarkable increase in Fukuoka City since the beginning of April. The spread of infections in Fukuoka City will have a significant impact on the entire prefecture, so we must do everything we can to stop the further spread of the infection. As a prefectural measure, we have decided to ask prefectural residents to refrain from unnecessary outings and for restaurants and bars in Fukuoka City to shorten their business hours.
The prefectural government and Fukuoka City Hall will work closely together to stop the re-spreading of this infection at all costs.

○This is a request to all prefectural residents

This is a request to all prefectural residents

○ From April 20 (Tuesday) to May 19 (Wednesday)

  • Refrain from unnecessary outings, including during the daytime
  • Refrain from unnecessary traveling to and from areas where the infection is spreading, also to areas where measures are being taken to prevent the spread of the disease
  • When traveling across prefectures, check the infection situation at the destination and the requests from the local governments, and make a careful decision

〇 Please continue to take basic infection prevention practices such as wearing masks, washing hands, and keeping a safe distance from others.
Infection are spreading among young people in their 20s and 30s, and some cases have become serious symptoms. To prevent the spread of infection to the elderly, who are more likely to become seriously ill, we ask that you act with caution.

〇 When going to restaurants and bars, go in small groups for no more than two hours.
Do not drink heavily, wear a mask when talking, and avoid shouting.

〇 This is a request to all restaurants, cafes, etc. in Fukuoka City.

〇 Between midnight on April 22 (THU) and 24:00 on May 19 (WED), please keep your business hours between 5:00 and 21:00, and serve alcoholic beverages from 11:00  and stop serving alcohol at 20:30.

〇 Stores that cooperate with the requests will be provided with a cooperation money, which is set in stages according to their sales as follows.
Small and medium-sized companies will receive 25,000 yen to 75,000 yen per day.
Large companies will receive a maximum of 200,000 yen per day depending on the amount of decrease in sales.

〇 Businesses are encouraged strongly to promote work from home (teleworking) and staggered work hours to reduce contact with other people.

〇 If, before May 19, it becomes clear that there is a tendency for the number of patients to fall below the equivalent of Stage 2 as indicated by the national government’s alert scale, we will make an extensive judgment at that point and consider lifting the requests early. Especially emphasis on the trend of the quantity of new cases.

〇 To protect the lives of those close to you, including yourself, grandparents, familymembers, loved ones, and friends, we would like all prefectural resident tothoroughly implement basic infection prevention practices and act with caution.

〇 We have been given no other choice to take strict measures once again, and we apologize to everyone, especially to restaurants and bars in Fukuoka City, forthe burden this repeated request will cause, but we ask for your understanding and cooperation to overcome the battle against COVID-19.
