Cooperative Projects for Air Quality Improvement with Jiangsu Province, China(January 26th-30th, 2015)

Fukuoka Prefecture and Jiangsu Province (China), with which the prefecture established friendly ties, jointly promote cooperation regarding air quality improvement in China by participating in the "Support project for enhancement of collaboration among cities for China's atmospheric environmental improvement".
From January 26 to 30, in the cooperation with Environment Protection Agency, Jiangsu Province, the prefecture accepted six administrative staff engaged in air environment preservation in Jiangsu Province. As part of efforts to develop human resources for this project, the prefecture provided training programs to help them to learn about the legislative system and application of regulations for air pollution prevention. The prefecture will continue to work on promoting the improvement of air quality in Jiangsu Province and Asian region as well.

Fukuoka International Business Association (FIBA) event (January, 2015)(January 20th, 2015)

FIBA January Event was held on January 21 at Fukuoka Governor's Official Residence. A gathering is regularly held to enhance information exchange regarding business in Fukuoka and Kyushu and to promote networking among FIBA members. Governor Ogawa actively communicated with about 60 participants, including foreign business persons who mainly conduct business in Fukuoka and Japanese business persons as well. The governor also promoted various products of Fukuoka prefectures such as Japanese Sake, "Genki Tsukushi" locally produced rice, Amaou strawberry, and Fukuoka Nori (Laver).
The event also featured a lecture by Edanz Group Japan under the title of "Advantages and Challenges for Foreign Companies Doing Business in Fukuoka", after which participants actively exchanged their views on business environment of Fukuoka.

A signing ceremony of a MOU between Fukuoka Prefecture and the Thai Ministry of Industry on support for SMEs' business exchange(January 13th, 2015)

On January 13, 2015, Fukuoka Prefecture and the Thai Ministry of Industry concluded a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on support for business exchange of medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), with a view to further strengthening cooperation of between Fukuoka and Thailand SMEs.

Fukuoka Prefecture has actively promoted mutual exchanges with Thailand in various fields, such as economy, tourism environment and youth groups. In 2006, the prefecture signed a friendship agreement with Bangkok, Thailand. In terms of economic relationship, the prefecture has worked very closely with the Thai Ministry of Industry to provide various programs such as those relating to business expansion through exchanges between SMEs' managers in Fukuoka and Thailand.

Governor Ogawa said that "Various cooperative efforts for strengthening both economy have made tangible achievements. Through this MOU we hope to further deepen a two-way business exchange of SMEs in both regions."

Let's bring Rugby World Cup 2019 to Fukuoka(January 6th, 2015)

In 2019, Japan will be the first Rugby World Cup to be held in Asia. The Rugby World Cup is one of the three largest sporting events in the world like the FIFA World Cup and the Olympic Games. In the prefecture, Fukuoka City has announced its bid to host World Cup matches. It is expected that hosting the World Cup will bring about a significant effect on the prefecture, such as promotion of sports, healthy development of young people, and promotion of international exchanges. In order to win the right to host the event, Fukuoka Prefecture established "Rugby World Cup 2019 Bid Committee ", whose members are drawn from industry, government and academia. There are a number of key factors that could be critical in the winning of bid. These factors include well-equipped facilities at the venues, easy access to transportation and most importantly the support of the local community. Fukuoka Prefecture will work closely together with people of the prefecture to bring the Rugby World Cup 2019 to Fukuoka.

Reception for the meeting of ISO/TC 197(December 3th, 2014)

Fukuoka Prefecture is taking steps to convert hydrogen and fuel cell sector of economy into growth industry.
On December 3, the governor attended the welcome reception for the meeting of ISO (International Organization for Standardization) in Fukuoka Prefecture, which discusses the international standardization for hydrogen and fuel cell technologies.
The governor introduced Fukuoka's efforts to promote the wide spread use of FCVs and construction of hydrogen stations, along with prefecture's appealing points such as delicious local produce, and tourist spots in English at the reception where participants from 11 courtiers including Japan were gathered.

The 23rd Japan-Korea Strait Coastal Region Governors' Conference(November 21th, 2014)

On November 21, the 23rd Japan-Korea Strait Coastal Region Governors' Conference was held in South Jeolla Province, the Republic of Korea.
Under the theme of "What make a landscape beautiful ?" governors and mayors from eight municipalities from Japan and the Republic of Korea made presentations on their own initiatives. Governor Ogawa introduced approaches to beautiful landscape design that are respectively taken by four regions (Kitakyushu, Fukuoka, Chikugo,Chikuho) in Fukuoka Prefecture, from a viewpoint of striking a balance between economic growth and environmental problems.

The 6th Special Olympics Nippon National Summer Games Fukuoka 2014(November 1th, 2014)

On November 1, the opening ceremony for "The 6th Special Olympics Nippon National Summer Games Fukuoka 2014 "was held in Fukuoka City.
Special Olympics is a global organization which provides various sport trainings for intellectual disabilities and holds national games once every four years.
In a greeting at the Final Leg of the Torch Run which took place before the opening ceremony ,the governor said "Please deliver the flame of this torch, which represents full of sincerity of people who warmly received it throughout the course of its journey in Japan, to the games opining ceremony", then the torch has been passed to the torch bearer.
With the presence of Her Imperial Highness Princess,Hisako of Takamado and U.S. Ambassador Caroline Kennedy, about 1,500 participants, including athletes and staff attended the opening ceremony where MISIA, a Japanese singer, performed cheering song.

Opening ceremony of Iwatani Hydrogen Station Kokura(October 22, 2014)

On October 22, the opening ceremony for "Iwatani Hydrogen Station Kokura", first commercial hydrogen station in Kyushu, was held.
With the help of Fukuoka FCV Club, which was launched in August, Fukuoka Prefecture will take a leading role to promote wider use of FCVs and disseminate attractiveness offered by FCVs while advancing installation of about 10 hydrogen stations in the prefecture.

Rollout ceremony for the MRJ (Mitsubishi Regional Jet), a next-generation regional jet(October 18, 2014)

On October 18, a rollout ceremony -unveiling a new aircraft by rolling it out of its assembly plant- for the MRJ (Mitsubishi Regional Jet), a next-generation regional jet was held at the Komaki Minami Plant of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd(MHI)'s Nagoya Aerospace Systems Works in Toyoyama cho, Aichi Prefecture. The MRJ has been jointly developed by MHI and Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation. In February 2014, MHI decided to use Kitakyushu Airport as the base for test flights and aircraft parking. The prefecture will continue to work closely with the national government and local governments with the aim of further facilitating Japan's aircraft industry including MRJ project.

A signing ceremony of a Letter of Intent(LOI) between the Swedish Olympic Committee(SOC) and Fukuoka Prefecture as well as Fukuoka City.(October 8th, 2014)

On October 8, a signing ceremony of a Letter of Intent (LOI) for "Pre-Olympic training camp for 2020 Tokyo Olympic" was held in Fukuoka City. This LOI was concluded by the Swedish Olympic Committee (SOC) ,Fukuoka Prefecture and Fukuoka City.

The LOI allows Fukuoka as the first location to host the training camp for the Swedish national team ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic,
The agreement describes the outline of training camp and clarifies roles of each parties. In his greeting, Governor Ogawa said that "It is an honor for us to be selected as the site of Sweden's training camp. We would like to extend our warm hospitality to help every Swedish athlete play his or her best at Olympic game."

Special exhibition of "Treasured Masterpieces of the National Palace Museum, Taipei " "Meat-shaped Stone" makes an exclusive appearance(October 6th, 2014)

An opening ceremony was held on October 6 to unveil an special exhibition of "Treasured Masterpieces of the National Palace Museum, Taipei "at Kyushu National Museum.
The exhibition featured carefully selected 110 works, including "Meat-shaped Stone," which was displayed outside Taiwan for the very first time, attracting 250,000 visitors within and outside of prefecture.
Taiwan is an important partner for Fukuoka Prefecture. The prefecture will further facilitate exchanges with Taiwan in a wide range of areas, including economy, culture and tourism.

Since its opening in 2005, the museum has welcomed 1.2 million visitors. Fukuoka Prefecture will continue to work together with the Japanese government to create more opportunities to its residents to encourage them to learn about various cultures and arts under the concept of "interpreting the formation of Japanese culture from the perspective of Asian history".

Opening Ceremony of Food EXPO Kyushu(October 3, 2014)

On October 3, "Food EXPO Kyushu" was held. This event featured a great range of delicious foods from Kyushu region. During the EXPO, "Kyushu Umaimono Syokudo (Delicious Kyushu Foods Restaurant)" served special dishes in Kyushu and Okinawa while buyers from Japan and abroad had business meetings at the site.
