On November 16 and 17, the Fukuoka Prefectural Agricultural, Forestry, and Fishery Festival took place in Fukuoka City in order to promote a better understanding of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries which play important roles in supplying fresh and delicious foods, recharging water sources, conserving land, and so on for our lives.

Fukuoka prefectural agricultural, forestry, fishery, and processed products such as Amaou strawberries, persimmon, Genkitsukushi rice, Hakata chicken, shiitake mushroom, Hakata seaweed, and locally-brewed sake were sold. There was also a section for cooking using prefectural agricultural, forestry, and fishery products. Besides, a talk show about dietary education and workshops like a woodwork class were provided, and the venues bustled with many people.

The public viewing for launch of Soyuz spacecraft which Astronaut Koichi Wakata got on board(November 7th, 2013)

Let's cheer for Mr. Wakata's fourth challenge to space!

An astronaut, Mr. Koichi Wakata who serves as an ambassador for the Ambitious Youth Project which Fukuoka Prefecture promotes was assigned to stay at the International Space Station (ISS) as a crew over a long period. On November 7, Soyuz spacecraft which Mr. Wakata got on board was launched.

Public viewings for remote broadcast of the launch were held at prefectural office and Katanawa Elementary School in Nakagawa Town to cheer for his challenge, and many people participated. When the spacecraft was launched successfully, roars and applause were given at the venues.

Mr. Wakata will perform various tasks on the ISS and communicate with prefectural children on a real-time basis in February of 2014. Besides, from March he will be the first Japanese commander of the ISS.


At Katanawa Elementary School a staff from Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) gave explanations.

The 21st Fukuoka Prefectural Cultural Award Presentation Ceremony(November 5th, 2013)

Fukuoka prefectural cultural figures who are active domestically and abroad

Fukuoka Prefecture presents Fukuoka Prefectural Cultural Awards to individuals and groups which achieved excellent performances in promotion of culture in order to promote cultural activities of prefectural inhabitants and develop prefectural culture.

This year the awards were presented to Ms. Yumiko Urabe (from Nogata City) who is a pianist and a professor at University of Music and Performing Arts Munich in Germany and performs music actively in Japan and overseas, Mr. Naoyuki Kawahara (from Kitakyushu City) who is the chairperson of a non-profit organization (NPO) called Rocinates and works toward developing local infrastructures in Sudan starting with medical activities, and a brass band club in Seika Girls' High School (in Fukuoka City) which has maintained nation's top-level skills for years and performs music actively. At the ceremony held in Fukuoka City on November 5, many participants enjoyed award winners' speech and performances.

The 15th Fukuoka Design Award: Exhibition of submitted products, awards ceremony, and symposium(October 30th, 2013)

Designs enrich our lives.

Fukuoka Prefecture and Fukuoka Design Association make honorable recognition of marketable, highly original, well-designed prefectural corporate products as Fukuoka Design Awards.

On October 29 and 30, an exhibition of submitted products and an awards ceremony took place in Fukuoka City. The grand prize was awarded to Mysa Co., Ltd.'s Archi Skin, an aluminum design panel for covering inside and outside of buildings under the concept of "skin covering buildings".

The prize-winning products will be promoted at Hakata store of Tokyu Hands Inc. and a permanent selling space called Fukuoka Design Collection in Colet Izutsuya in front of JR Kokura Station.

The 8th Worldwide Fukuoka Kenjinkai (the association of people from Fukuoka Prefecture in overseas) Convention and the Worldwide Fukuoka Kenjinkai Fair(From October 9, 2013 to October 13, 2013)

Welcome back to your hometown, Fukuoka Prefecture!

The 8th Worldwide Fukuoka Kenjinkai Convention took place for four days from October 9 to 12. About 600 members from 26 branches in overseas attended the convention. This convention has been held in various locations of the world since 1992, and it took place in their hometown, Fukuoka Prefecture for the first time in 12 years.

On the first day of the convention, a commemoration ceremony and a welcome reception took place in Fukuoka City. The members of the association enjoyed their hometown, Fukuoka through chorus of prefectural elementary school students, performances of traditional arts, and so on.

During the convention, the members toured their hometowns to find out their roots, and business seminars for sharing overseas economic information with prefectural corporations and a seminar in which successful persons from the prefecture living in overseas made speeches for the young were held. The bonds among people from the prefecture were strengthened.

Besides, on October 12 and 13, the Worldwide Fukuoka Kenjinkai Fair took place at Tenjin Central Park. In order to promote cultures and products of regions where their branches are located, dishes and specialties of the countries mainly in the North and South Americas were introduced and sold, and samba and hula dance were performed on a stage. The venue bustled with many people whole day.


At the ceremony, the former governor of Hawaii, George Ariyoshi made a speech as a member of the association.

A ceremony in commemoration of a new regular container service between Miike and Shanghai Ports(September 7th, 2013)

A new step as an international physical distribution base

In order to promote the use of Miike Port which plays an important role as a physical distribution base of the southern part of Fukuoka Prefecture, the prefecture is making efforts to open new sea routes to China and Korea and enhance the port function.

A new international route to Shanghai opened in this August following one introduced in 2006 to Busan, and a commemoration ceremony was held in Omuta City on September 7. Governor Ogawa said that he hopes the new regular service will enhance the port's role as an international physical distribution base and increase the transaction volume.
