The next-generation vehicle's detailed decomposition structure research project(August 28th, 2013)

For learning the cutting-edge technology

For three days from August 28, a course to learn structures and mechanisms of parts by decomposing a hybrid automobile finely was provided. The purpose of the course was to prepare for full-scale popularization of next-generation vehicles like electric or fuel-cell cars and to support local corporations' development of new parts. Around 100 persons attended a lecture for decomposition of an engine on the first day, and took notes eagerly for development and improvement of products and technology upgrade.


Each part was decomposed while a lecturer explained functions of parts one by one.

The anti-drunk-driving campaign(August 25th, 2013)

For the elimination without any further delay

Fukuoka Prefecture is conducting the anti-drunk-driving campaign from August 25 to December 31 in order to raise citizens' awareness of drunk driving.

On August 25, the first-day event was held in Fukuoka City. In the ceremony to mark the start of the campaign at Hakata Riverain, Governor Ogawa appealed saying, "This year's number of drunk-driving accidents is expected to be less than last year's which was the least. The downward trend should be solidified, and drunk-driving accidents should be reduced further. Let's eliminate drunk driving together!" After his speech, around 200 participants appealed for the elimination of drunk driving by parading through Kawabata Shopping Street and engaging in an enlightenment activity at Canal City Hakata.

The Anti-drunk-driving Messengers consisting of personalities from 5 local radio stations, local musicians, and local idol groups performed an anti-drunk-driving song.

The limited-time Fruit Station (a fruit shop) for Toyomitsuhime, fig(August 23rd, 2013)

Enjoy a delicacy of the season!

A variety of fig, Toyomitsuhime was developed by Fukuoka Prefecture. The features of the fig are its high sugar content, bountiful juice, and smooth texture.

In order to promote Toyomitsuhime, the Fruit Station (a fruit shop) is set up at Tenjin IMS in Fukuoka City between August 23 and October 6. At the shop, the fig and sweets using the fig like a tart and a parfait are sold.

A group of idols who work as a cheering squad for Hakata Toyomitsuhime, LinQ also attended the opening event on August 23 and promoted the fig.

Persons in Kitaya Co., Ltd. reported to the governor that they received the highest award in the sake category of International Wine Challenge 2013.(July 31st, 2013)

Won the world's highest award in the sake category

Daiginjo Gokujo Kitaya brewed by Kitaya Co., Ltd. in Yame City won the highest award in the sake category of International Wine Challenge 2013 which is one of the world's most major wine competitions. It was the first time that a sake brewery in the prefecture won an award.

On July 31, persons in Kitaya Co., Ltd. visited Governor Ogawa and reported that they received the award. The governor said, “It is very pleasing that sake made by prefectural residents using rice and water from Fukuoka Prefecture won the highest award. Let's take this occasion to highly encourage sake brewing in Fukuoka Prefecture!”

The tenth workshop for fostering leaders in the next generation of Japan (July 26th, 2013)

For the future of Japan

A summer school for high school students, the workshop for fostering leaders in the next generation of Japan was held in order to foster world-class human resources. On July 26, the entrance ceremony took place in Munakata City, and Governor Ogawa and a writer, Mr. Naoki Hyakuta had a talk on the theme of ”A leader's picture which Sazo Idemitsu, a man who was called pirate presents”.

The workshop has been held ten times by this year. For two weeks until August 8, 170 young persons from 27 prefectures and four countries received lectures from famous persons who represent each sector of society including the former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Mahathir, and the "High School Diet" in which students pretended to be a Diet member and discussed the modality of the Constitution was convened.


The Governor and Mr. Hyakuta talked about the life of Sazo Idemitsu, the Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd.'s founder who challenged the world's oil interests in a monopoly, and sent enthusiastic messages to the young who will bear the future.


Students asked what the spirit of Sazo Idemitsu who worked not only for his interest but also for country is like and what is missing in today's Japan.

International Symposium on Cancer Vaccine in Fukuoka(July 12th, 2013)

Practicable research achievements were promoted.

Fukuoka Prefecture is promoting biotechnology industry, and as one of the core technologies in the medical field, the prefecture is working toward practical use of peptide vaccine which is attracting attention as the fourth treatment method for cancer patients following surgery, anticancer drug, and radiation. In this August, the final phase of a clinical trial for pharmaceutical approval of the personalized peptide vaccine for prostate cancer patients will start.

In order to promote this kind of achievements both domestically and internationally, International Symposium on Cancer Vaccine in Fukuoka was held in Fukuoka City on July 12. Along with a keynote speech by Kurume University's Professor Kyogo Ito who developed personalized peptide vaccine for cancer patients, speeches and a panel discussion were presented by researchers and corporations engaged in developing cancer vaccines in Japan and overseas, and visitors listened intently.


*peptide: A segment of a protein. There are unique peptides on the surface of cancer cells.


The keynote speech by Professor Ito. The peptide vaccine for cancer patients is a treatment method in which patients' immunity is utilized and only cancer cells are attacked, so it has fewer side effects. The personalized peptide vaccine is expected to have more potent effect because individually suitable peptide is selected and administered to each patient.

Children from Kaigai Fukuoka Kenjinkai (the association of people from Fukuoka Prefecture in overseas) interacted with elementary school students in Fukuoka(July 9th, 2013)

Friendship budding beyond national boundaries

Kaigai Fukuoka Kenjinkai (the association of people from Fukuoka Prefecture in overseas) was formed so that people who immigrate from Fukuoka Prefecture to overseas can live helping each other. While the generation shift of the members is undergone, Fukuoka Prefecture is inviting children from the association to Fukuoka every year in order to have them deepen their understanding of and interest in their hometown, Fukuoka Prefecture and intensify the activities of the association.

On July 9, 22 children from Brazil, Peru, Mexico, Colombia, Bolivia, Argentina, and the United States of America visited Fukuoka Municipal Naka Elementary School and interacted with students. They introduced their own culture and tried calligraphy with students in the fifth grade. They opened up to one another easily, and enjoyed calligraphy even though they were struggling with an unfamiliar writing brush.

The first meeting of the Central Park Framework Committee(June 27th, 2013)

A comprehensive improvement is demanded as a feature of Fukuoka.

Fukuoka Prefecture and Fukuoka City established the Central Park Framework Committee which is composed of academic experts and others. The purpose of the committee is to comprehensively improve the area around Ohori Park which has bountiful water and greenery and Maizuru Park where the remains of Fukuoka Castle and Korokan lay as an oasis and a base for promoting history, arts, culture, and tourism. The prefecture and city are formulating the central park framework receiving advises from the committee.

On June 27, the first meeting of the committee was held in Fukuoka City, and issues and direction were discussed. After citizens' opinions gathered in a public comment are examined, the framework will be formulated by the end of next March.

Toyota Motor Kyushu, Inc. was registered as the first Support Organization for Agriculture in Fukuoka!(June 24th, 2013)

Let's spread! Happiness through food in Fukuoka

Fukuoka Prefecture is promoting dietary education and the movement of "local production for local consumption" under the slogan "Let's eat! Happiness through food in Fukuoka". As part of the efforts, the Support Alliance for Agriculture in Fukuoka was expanded, and, in addition to Support Families and Support Stores, now corporations and non-profitable organizations which contribute to the increase in consumption of agricultural and marine products in Fukuoka Prefecture or contribute to rural societies can also be registered as a Support Organization.

On June 24, Toyota Motor Kyushu, Inc. was registered as the first Support Organization because it offers a "local production for local consumption" menu mainly using local agricultural products in the cafeteria, and a registration card was issued to the executive director of the corporation, Sadahito Baba.

Students from Delhi State in India visited Fukuoka Prefecture in order to interact with prefectural high school students (June 12th, 2013)

The expanding grass-roots exchange

Students from Delhi Public School, Mathura Road in India's Delhi State with which Fukuoka Prefecture formed a friendship alliance visited Fukuoka Prefecture in order to interact with prefectural high school students for seven days from June 11 to June 17. On June 12, they visited Kasumigaoka Public High School and deepened exchanges with students through calligraphy, performances of both countries' national anthem, and so on. The young who will bear the future of each region enjoyed having a conversation in English in the classroom and spent a wonderful time.

Fukuoka prefectural comprehensive disaster drill(June 2nd, 2013)

In order to prepare against disasters

On June 2, Fukuoka prefectural comprehensive disaster drill was held by around 1,500 persons from public administrations, fire department, police, medical institutions, and local communities in Omuta City. They conducted 35 drills including ones for collecting and transmitting information promptly, assisting evacuation of people in disasters, and saving lives from housings and vehicles. The general manager of the drill, Governor Ogawa appealed saying, "I would like people from concerned institutions to continuously strengthen their mutual collaboration and local people to check procedure in disasters again."
