World Heritage Registration Promotion Council for "Okinoshima Island and Related Sites in Munakata Region" and an inspection on Okinoshima Island(May 18th, 2013)

Have an "island in which deities reside" registered as a World Heritage Site!

In cooperation with Munakata and Fukutsu cities, Fukuoka Prefecture is aiming to have "Okinoshima Island and Related Sites in Munakata Region" registered as a World Heritage Site in 2016. On May 18, a meeting of World Heritage Registration Promotion Council, which is composed of administrations and economic, cultural, and civic organizations, for "Okinoshima Island and Related Sites in Munakata Region" was had in Munakata City. At the meeting, in addition to the project plan for the fiscal year of 2013, a former director-general of UNESCO, Mr. Koichro Matsuura's appointment as an adviser was approved. Besides, after the meeting, an on-site inspection on Okinoshima Island was made. The promotion council's chairman and committee who actually observed precious assets such as Okitsumiya Shrine of Munakata Taisha Shrine and shrine sites rediscovered the value of the island and renewed their determination to have it registered as a World Heritage Site.

Kitakyushu Airport's new regular international cargo flights(May 11th, 2013)

A progress to become an international freight transport base

Kitakyushu Airport is located on an island and available round the clock. Taking advantage of this characteristic, Fukuoka Prefecture is aiming to make the airport an air cargo base. On May 11, regular international cargo flights by Nippon Cargo Airlines Co., Ltd. went into service. One flight flies a week. A cargo airplane which leaves from Incheon International Airport in Korea loads cargoes at Kitakyushu Airport and heads to Narita Airport. Then, the cargoes are transshipped on the same day and delivered to all over the world. With this service, Kitakyushu Airport is expected to play a role as an international freight transport base which connects Fukuoka Prefecture and neighboring areas to the world.

The birth of a major point of artistic and cultural exchanges(April 27th, 2013)

The opening of Kyushu Art and Culture Museum

On April 27th, a facility for living experience and exchange of art and culture, Kyushu Art and Culture Museum was open in front of Kyushu bullet train's Chikugo Funagoya Station. At this facility, in cooperation with art-and-culture-related and town development organizations, various events such as art exhibitions, concerts, and workshops of Chikugo area's traditional culture are held, and the charm of the region is promoted. On the opening day, the Miss International, Ms. Ikumi Yoshimatsu was invited as the one-day honorary director of the museum, and an unveiling ceremony of wall painting and sculptures, a talk, a concert, and a workshop took place. The museum was bustled with many people. At Kyushu Art and Culture Museum, in order to commemorate the opening, an exhibition featuring the collection of Fukuoka Prefectural Museum of Art was held until June 16th. North Kyushu's One-and-half-million-automobile Major Production Base Promotion Forum(April 24th, 2013)

A new concept was constructed.

North Kyushu has grown into one of the world's leading automobile production base, and has the capacity to manufacture 1.54 million automobiles a year. The last fiscal year's production volume was 1.42 million which reached the record. In recent years the automobile industry has reached a major turning point because of intensifying global competition among production bases and the spread of next-generation automobiles. Therefore, a new promotion strategy is required in order to precisely respond to the environmental change. On April 24, North Kyushu's One-and-half-million-Automobile Major Production Base Promotion Forum was held in Kitakyushu City, and a new concept was announced. In the concept the production goal for the next decade is set to 1.8 million automobiles, a 20 percent share of the domestic production for more development of North Kyushu. In addition, policies of business deployment were announced by heads of automobile manufactures in North Kyushu, and local companies' effort for enhancing competitiveness was reported. About 800 participants were listening intently.

The opening ceremony of Fukuoka i3 Center for Organic Photonics and Electronics Research(April 19th, 2013)

Aiming to became a base of organic photonics and electronics research and development

In Fukuoka Prefecture, in order to promote industrialization of the organic photonics and electronics field which is expected to grow considerably in the future, Fukuoka i3 Center for Organic Photonics and Electronics Research (i3-OPERA) was open, and the opening ceremony was held on April 19th. Through research with cooperation among industry, academia, and government taking advantage of organic electroluminescence materials under development, the center is aiming to become a base which links industry to the technology.

A KLM Royal Dutch Airlines' ceremony in commemoration of a new line between Fukuoka and Amsterdam(April 4th, 2013)

Connecting Fukuoka and Europe

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines began service between Fukuoka and Amsterdam. It is the first direct flight from Fukuoka Airport to Europe. The first airplane has arrived at Fukuoka Airport on April 4th. Three flights fly on the route every week. After the twelve-hour direct flight to Schiphol Airport, which is a hub airport of Europe, travelers can transfer to more than 70 cities in Europe on the same day. The governor, Mr. Ogawa who attended the commemoration ceremony said, "I hope that this new flight service will promote exchanges in every field such as tourism, business, and culture between Fukuoka in Kyushu Area and Netherland in Europe." in his congratulatory speech.

Fukuoka Asia Collection 2013 (FACo)(March 24th, 2013)

Make Fukuoka a base of fashion in Asia!

Fukuoka Prefecture organized the "Fukuoka Asia Fashion Base Council" with fashion-related companies, educational institutions, chambers of commerce and industry, and Fukuoka City, and is promoting the fashion industry through the combined efforts of the government and the private sector. On March 24th, the 5th Fukuoka Asia Collection (FACo) was held in Fukuoka City. On the day, more than 7,000 audiences were fascinated with shows by popular models and television personalities, and enjoyed shopping at booths of sponsor companies.

Japanese and Chinese Food Festival (March 16th,17th, 2013)

A bridge between Japan and China through food

Fukuoka Prefecture established a friendship-city relationship with Jiangsu Province of China in 1992, and has exchanges with the province in a wide range of areas such as young persons, culture, academic activities, economy, and environment. On March 16th and 17th, in Kurume City, "Japanese and Chinese Food Festival" was held to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the friendship-city relationship. The city is promoting its economic growth by local casual foods. In addition to authentic dishes like Chinese noodle and fried rice cooked by chefs from Jiangsu Province, collaborative dishes of Kurume's local casual foods, ramen and udon noodles and grilled chicken in Chinese style arrangement were served. Besides, a cutout artist and a seal engraver from Jiangsu Province gave live performances. The venue was bustled with many people.
