Advanced Accelerator Association Promoting Science & Technology Symposium(October 27, 2012)

Closing in on the wonders of the universe

Fukuoka City hosted the "Advanced Accelerator Association Promoting Science & Technology Symposium 2012 in Kyushu" on October 27th. Introduced to the audience at this event earlier this year in July was the director general of The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), Rolf-Dieter Heuer, who became instrumental in finding a new subatomic particle that resembles the Higgs boson which is said to be a key element in understanding why there is diversity and life in the universe. Atsuto Suzuki, the director general of High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK), which is Japan's one of the largest research centers, shared the spotlight along with International Linear Collider (ILC) Project, which is another key in finding out how the universe has come to form. The border of Fukuoka and Saga in the vicinity of Mt. Sefuri is considered to be the most likely candidate for hosting this, world's-only linear particle accelerator, ILC. The event venue was filled with participants and college/university students who would raise questions to the researchers about the wonders of this universe.
